Healthy Lifestyle App To Help Sussex Get Active
Did you know? Just 10 minutes of brisk walking a day can make a huge difference to your health. With this in mind, West Sussex County Council and Public Health England are urging all adults to make the most of the summer weather and find 10 minutes a day to improve their health.
Walking briskly for 10 minutes in the short and long term can get the heart pumping faster and can make you feel better, more energetic and improve your mood. Over time, brisk walking can help to lower the risk of you developing serious illnesses like heart disease and type 2 diabetes.
West Sussex County Council’s cabinet member for adults and health, Amanda Jupp, said: “Summer is the perfect time of year to spend a little more time outside and to be more active, although the busy nature of modern life means that it is often difficult to fit physical activity in.’
“The good news is that brisk walking counts as a form of intense psysical activity. So whether you are walking to work or the shops, stepping out at lunch time, taking the dog for a walk around the local park, or enjoying one of the many footpaths we have in the county.”
To help you on a journey to a healthier you, Public Health England is encouraging adults to download the free Active 10 app, the first of its kind, to help complete your 10 minutes of brisk walking daily and to gradually build this up to multiple Active 10s to receive serious health benefits.
