Bowling Over the Opposition…
Back by popular demand, Skittles Week – organised by the Horley Lions, will be taking place again this month at Horley Cricket Club between 6th – 10th July, raising funds in the process for two local charities.
We caught up with Lion, Peter Moxley to learn more…
“The tournament takes place over five days starting on July 6th,” Peter tells us. “The first four days are qualifying rounds with finals night taking place Friday 10th July. Each night starts 6.45pm and if you get through the qualifying rounds, the rounds should be over by 10.00pm. Finals night is slightly longer and generally ends about 10.30pm.”
Entry to the feel-good charity fundraising event costs just £36 per team (of eight) and it’s expected that sixty-four teams will take part in total, with sixteen groups battling it out each evening. As Peter explains, the money raised will be benefitting two good causes, locally: “Our aim is to make £5,000 over the
week for two charities; Heatherley Cheshire Home in Copthorne and a lesser-known charity, Providing Support for Children with Down Syndrome (PSDS)
which is based in Outwood.”
“The tournament is a great community event,” Peter continues. “It’s just a fun week where everyone joins in and in so doing makes some money for charity!”
“I never fail to marvel at the fun people have when taking part in this community event as they compete to win the coveted “plastic” trophy. With £5,000 raised for charity everyone is a winner. So if you and your friends think you have what it takes reach for that application form!”
It’s not too late to take part! Entry forms are available by visiting: www.horleylions.org.uk or emailing Peter directly on: pmoxley@sky.com.
