Two Horsham charities, Horsham Matters and Southwater Youth Project, have both received grants of over £4,000 from Focus Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Focus Group, an IT and communications company based in Shoreham. These funds will support the charity’s vital work with children and families, offering essential aid and enriching experiences during these challenging times.
Horsham Matters has been a beacon of hope in the community, providing invaluable services that address food poverty and support vulnerable residents. Last year, the charity delivered an unprecedented 10,220 emergency food parcels – the highest number in its 10-year history. This year, the need has continued to surge, with 5,294 parcels already distributed in just six months, highlighting the increasing number of families struggling to make ends meet.
Their grant will provide over 200 supermarket food vouchers to families in need this summer, offering critical support during these challenging times.
Gill Davies, Trust & Fundraising Officer for Horsham Matters, expressed her gratitude for the grant: “We are incredibly thankful to Focus Foundation for their generous support. This grant will have a significant impact on the lives of many families in our community, ensuring they have access to essential food supplies during the Summer months. The continued rise in demand for our services shows just how crucial this support is.”
The youth worker and volunteers at the Southwater Youth Project collaborate with schools, wardens, PCSOs, the parish council, local businesses, and residents to unite their young community. Beyond their existing youth club, art club, and support activities, their grant will fund outings for many children, providing respite and joy in these difficult times.
The Foundation’s Grants Manager, Mandi Stanley, has a personal connection to Horsham as she was born and raised in the district. Both grants are especially meaningful to her, knowing the positive impact it will have on her hometown community. “Supporting both charities is deeply personal for me. I have seen firsthand the incredible work they do and the difference they make in the lives of so many. It is an honour to be able to contribute to their mission through Focus Foundation.”
