Christmas Offers No Respite From Domestic Abuse

Christmas Offers No Respite From Domestic Abuse

At Christmas, we spend a lot more time with family, but for someone in an abusive relationship this can be a really hard time of year – an abusive partner may be spending more time at home, monitoring behaviour more closely than ever.

Domestic abuse is not just about violence – it can include verbal, sexual, psychological, financial or emotional abuse, it is the use of intimidation to coerce and control a partner, former partner or adult family member – whether inside the home or elsewhere.

Someone experiencing domestic abuse may feel frightened and very alone, therefore talking to someone can be the first step towards accessing information and support. A safe place to speak with non-judgmental support as a result is key, East Surrey Domestic Abuse Services (ESDAS) provides needs-led support and advice to anyone experiencing domestic abuse within their homes or relationships.

Call ESDAS in confidence on: 01737 771350, text: 07860 039720, email: support@esdas.org.uk, or visit: www.esdas.org.uk for advice and support.
