Take Their Seats
As voters go to the polls this month in local elections, young people in East Sussex took their seats earlier this year on a body representing their peers regarding the issues that affect them the most.
A total of 21 young people aged between 11 and 18 have been elected or co-opted to serve one-year term on the East Sussex Youth Cabinet, each representing their school, college or a youth group.
Councillor Sylvia Tidy, East Sussex County Council lead member for children and families, said: “It’s great to see so many young people taking part in the democratic process and making a real difference.”
One representative, Edward Peasgood from Uckfield College, says: “I am so passionate about so many of the topics and causes that the Youth Cabinet discusses and takes action on.”
