Feel The Heat On Your Feet For Surrey Charity
Feel The Heat On Your Feet For Surrey Charity
This month on Friday, November 8, you are invited to slip off your shoes and socks to walk across red-hot coals and take part in the experience of a lifetime. Barefooted fundraisers are asked to put their bravery, and feet to the test with temperatures of up to 1,200 °F with this ultimate adrenaline-fuelled challenge to raise money for the YMCA East Surrey’s WAVES youth group.
Are you looking for an exciting and exhilarating way to raise money for a good cause? This month, as the weather turns colder you can avoid the wintery cold blast and feel the heat of a firewalk by putting your best foot forward on hot coals all in aid of YMCA East Surrey’s WAVES youth group.
WAVES is making a difference by raising awareness of mental health and providing peer support for young people in need. Money raised from the firewalk will provide more opportunities for young people aged 13 to 19 to attend WAVES and take part in supportive and positive mental health activities.
In recent years it has increasingly come to light that many young people have suffered with their mental health with statistics showing that one in five young people experience symptoms of anxiety, depression and body confidence challenges and one in 10 have a diagnosable mental health issue.
Mental health professionals indicate that the numbers of young people in need of support are in fact even higher than these figures. At WAVES youth group, organisers believe it is important to provide safe spaces where young people can start discussing mental health positively and constructively.
Speaking about WAVES, one member says: “I have never been to a youth club group before outside of school because I never felt I fitted in and I was too anxious to take part in anything. WAVES is perfect for me. I have made new friends who I know will support me and have learnt a lot.”
