Festive Fun At Churchill’s Chartwell This Christmas

Christmas is a time for traditions, and this season Chartwell has a wide variety of enjoyable events and experiences from Christmas lunches, to a festive market to get you in the festive spirit and be a part of your family’s Christmas traditions. The family home of Sir Winston Churchill will also be opening the doors to rooms of the house deck with Christmas sparkle on selected days this month to bring heaps of fun before the big day.

Are you looking for activities this Christmas on your doorstep? This December, Chartwell, the family home of one of the greatest leaders of the 20th Century, Sir Winston Churchill welcomes you to join the more than 230,000 visitors a year who pass through it’s doors for a uniquely personal glimpse into the private life of this statesman, and enjoy some festive fun.

Blow away the winter cobwebs with Chartwell’s invigorating walks across the estate, and a wild play area with swings, balance beams and a treehouse. For family fun, venture into the garden on an interactive trail telling the story of the 12 days of Christmas. For foodies, enjoy a Christmas lunch, and after Christmas a eat hearty breakfast from the property’s café.

This month visit Churchill’s painting studio, home to the largest collection of Churchill paintings in the world, December is an ideal time to see his work, which capture a variety of topics including the south of France and Marrakesh. Newly launched, visitors can explore Churchill’s works with an interactive touch-wall tracking his creative and geographic journey.

Chartwell house maybe closed outside weekends in December but the exhibition, A History Of Winston Churchill In 50 Objects, is open, giving visitors the chance to see a fascinating collection of Churchill’s own loved possessions from the course of his lifetime, and see the an interactive digitised version of the Churchill’s visitors book – discover who visited the Churchill family.

12 Days Of Christmas Trail
Explore the garden on this interactive trail, normal admission charges apply, open daily 11.00am – 3.00pm until Sunday, January 5 (closed December 24 and 25).

Storytelling Weekend
On the weekend of Saturday, November 30 and Sunday, December 1 see the story of The Gingerbread Man come to life with Mrs Everest, Winston Churchill’s nanny, suitable for children aged four to eight-years-old, arts and crafts activities are also included, the event is free, normal admission charges apply. Booking is essential, to book a place, call: 0344 2491895.

Christmas Lunches
Enjoy a two or three-course festive meal in the Mulberry Room of the café. Meals start from £19.95, normal admission charges apply. To book, call: 01732 861161. Lunches until Friday, December 20, Tuesday to Friday only, with lunches served between 12.00pm and 2.00pm.

Christmas In The House
See selected rooms in the home of Sir Winston Churchill decorated as it would have been for Christmas celebrations at Chartwell in the 1920s. Entry is by timed ticket-only, available on the day from the visitor welcome centre, normal admission charges apply. Event open Saturday and Sunday, 7 and 8, 14 and 15, and 21 and 22 December, 11.00am – 3.00pm
