Former South African Star Signs For Surrey
It might be winter but there are exciting transfers in the world of cricket with Surrey County Cricket Club signing former South African international batsman Hashim Amla on a two-year contract.
The 36-year-old who retired from international cricket in August last year as South Africa’s second-highest test run scorer with 9,282 runs and is the only South African to score a test triple hundred.
Amla joins his former South Africa teammate Morne Morkel with the club looking for back-up to batsmen Ollie Pope and Rory Burns who are likely to be on England duty for much of the summer.
Surrey County Cricket Club director of cricket Alec Stewart said of the signing: “With several of
our players now in or around the international setup, the opportunity to bring Hashim back to Surrey was too good to ignore. His record speaks for itself and we know from his previous spells here that he will be an excellent resource for all of our players to learn from both on and off the field.”
