Handcross Bowls Club Open Day
Formed in 1906, Handcross Bowls Club has a rich history that has seen several generations of bowls players in the village come and go, with the original number of members sitting at just 15.
In 1996, membership numbers were still sat at a humble 16 but to fund the day-to-day running of the club, they decided they needed a larger number of members, subsequently resulting in extending the privilege of membership to residents outside of the village. As the response to this was so positive, this is still the basis of the membership today and the club can now take up to 50 members!
Over the years, the club has grown tremendously, with another rink being provided making it a four-rink green which was made possible by the amazing members, contributing financially themselves, by helping out at fundraising events and providing their labour and materials.
Over time, additional and continuous improvements have been made to the grounds and facilities including providing a beautiful pavilion and changing rooms for all members and visitors, which again was big thanks to the member’s efforts.
Handcross Bowls Club is affiliated with Sussex County Bowls (S.C.B) and enters teams into many competitions throughout the season (from late April to late September), through invitation and by annual application. Many of these competitions, as well as the usual friendly fixtures on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, are played both at Handcross and other Sussex and Surrey grounds throughout the outdoor season.
This wonderful club is perfect for those who are passionate about not only bowls but becoming part of a team and socialising with like-minded (and hopefully competitive) individuals.
