Sussex Charity Helping The Worlds Orangutans
This autumn, charitable and energetic environmentalists from around the world took part in a special race, The Rainforest Run 2019 – an event organised by Sussex-based charity International Animal Rescue (IAR).
Hundreds of fundraisers took to the streets by running, jogging or walking 5K, money raised by the event will help to restore a precious rainforest devastated by raging forest fires in Indonesia.
IAR which is based in Uckfield ran the largest orangutan rescue and release programme in West Borneo, after beginning its work in 2009, IAR has to date rescued more than 200 orangutans.
The charity aims to replant a total of 650,000 trees to bring fragile ecosystems back-to-life, and this project has been awarded the charity award in the Environment and Conservation category.
IAR’s community fundraising manager, Phily Kennington, said: “This is the first year of The Rainforest Run, and it comes at a very poignant time. We are blown away by the support.”
